CROSS COUNTRY RACE 3 – THURSDAY 6TH OCTOBER
Thankfully the scorching weather conditions had passed for this week’s race, however a strong wind meant pupils were running into a headwind at certain points around the course.
The girls ran first with Lilli-Mae deciding to try a slower start.  She ran extremely well again and fought all the way to the line to finish 5th - hopefully her great form will continue and she will be picked to represent the Tewkesbury District at the County Championships!  Behind her Holly Mai Bowery and Anna Biddulph-Davies ran with great determination to record good finishes.
In the boys race, Sam Graef set off at a blistering pace and held his position well to finish 9th. Towards the end of the race, Daniel Hill moved up through the pack to finish in an excellent 11th position (fantastic for a Y5).  Not far behind were Jake Graef (19th) and Adam Packwood, again showing his steady progression in 21st.

There are two more races in the cross country series which are to be held after Christmas.  In the meantime, Cross Country Club will be held on Thursdays after school.  For those who wish to get even faster, I recommend some long distance running at the weekends.

Well done to all those who have taken part so far, I am proud of you all!

CROSS COUNTRY
Race 1
A brief rain shower before the start didn’t dampen the spirits of the competitors before the first race of the cross country season with large fields turning out for the boys and girls races.
The girls raced first with Lilli-Mae Earnshaw storming off from the gun.       Lilli-Mae managed to hold on to the lead for three quarters of the race slipping to a superb fourth place finish with Anna Surman also taking a top ten place.

In the boys race, the experienced Year 6 racers ran extremely well and were supported by two incredible runs from Year 5 pupils Daniel Hill (13th) and Edward Perry (17th).  Combining this with great runs from Sam & Jake Graef and Patrick Kavanagh-Shields, Mitton pupils occupied 5 of the top 20 places – incredible for a school of our size.  Closely pursuing their team mates there were also strong runs from Adam Packwood and Patrick Collins.
A fantastic start to the season – let’s hope it continues!  Well done to all pupils who took part:-
Lilli-Mae Earnshaw, Anna Surman, Tess Ashmeade, Holly-Mai Bowery, Jade Channing,             Eleanor Godzisz, Anna Biddulph-Davies, Alanya Irwin.
Sam Graef, Jake Graef, Patrick Kavanagh-Shields, Adam Packwood, Patrick Collins, Michael  Frogatt-Jury, Oliver Coombes, Daniel Hill, Edward Perry, Joe Carter, Sam Thomas, William Sayers, Niall Knight and Toby Leggett.

Race 2
As the mercury pushed ever closer to 30 degrees a large team of Mitton runners waited anxiously at the Vineyards.  In such scorching conditions the race organisers wisely decided to reduce the distance of the race with the boys running first.  A large group of Mitton boys finished within seconds of each other with Patrick Kavanagh–Shields finishing faster than a jet propelled rocket to finish ninth, just ahead of Sam and Jake Graef. Daniel Hill, Adam Packwood and Patrick Collins finished a strong team race by finishing inside the top 30.
Following the boys race, the girls immediately lined up with Lilli – Mae again starting extremely fast. She held onto her lead for over half of the race and managed to finish second! Anna Surman again ran strongly with a top 20 finish. It was fantastic to see many new faces running in both events, all of whom raced with courage and pride and are a credit to their school.
